About

This Scrabble Word Score Calculator eliminates the need for mental math during your game night. It precisely calculates the point value of any played word, accounting for the complex board geometry of Double Letter, Triple Word, and Bingo bonuses. Whether you are playing the classic English version or international variants, this tool adapts the letter values accordingly.

In competitive play, the difference between winning and losing often comes down to modifier placement. A standard word like Quartzy (normally 28 points) can skyrocket to 164 points if placed on a Triple Word score with the Q on a Double Letter spot and a Bingo bonus. This calculator allows you to simulate these scenarios instantly to find the optimal play.

Formulas

The scoring algorithm follows the official tournament rules. The total score S is calculated by summing the individual letter values modified by their specific placement bonuses, then multiplying the total by any word bonuses, and finally adding the Bingo bonus if applicable.

S = (n∑i=1 (Li × Mi)) × W + B

Where:

  • Li = Point value of the i-th letter
  • Mi = Letter Multiplier (1, 2 for DL, 3 for TL)
  • W = Total Word Multiplier (Product of all DW/TW tiles)
  • B = Bingo Bonus (50 if length ≥ 7, else 0)
