When reinforcing concrete slabs, driveways, or floors, the primary material challenge is determining how many standard sheets or rolls are needed to cover a specific area while accounting for overlaps. Simply dividing the total area by the sheet size leads to material shortages, as structural integrity requires sheets to overlap by at least one grid square (typically 200mm to 300mm).
This calculator solves the 'effective area' problem. By inputting your specific overlap requirements, it calculates the usable coverage per sheet and determines the exact number of units to purchase. It prevents the common construction headache of stopping a pour due to being one sheet short.
Formulas
The calculator determines the Effective Area (Aeff) of a single sheet by subtracting the overlap strips from two sides (assuming a grid pattern).
The total sheets required is the ceiling of the total project area divided by the effective area:
