Mg/Kg Dosage Calculator
Professional tool for medical staff to convert weight-based prescriptions (mg/kg) into precise volumes (ml) or tablet counts.
About
In hospital and pharmacy settings, prescriptions are frequently written in mass-per-weight units (mg/kg), yet administration requires volume (ml) or unit counts (tablets). This calculator bridges that gap, providing a precise conversion based on available inventory concentration. It features a "Reverse Calculation" mode, allowing staff to verify the effective mg/kg dosage when given a specific volume, an essential safety step in double-checking orders.
Accuracy is paramount. The tool manages both liquid concentrations (e.g., 100mg/5ml) and solid strengths (e.g., 500mg/tab). It eliminates the cognitive load of cross-multiplication during high-stress shifts, reducing the risk of order-of-magnitude errors.
Formulas
The calculator uses standard dimensional analysis. The mass required is determined first, then converted to the final form (Volume or Count) based on concentration.
1. Required Mass (M):
M = Weight × Dosekg
2. Volume Calculation (V):
V = MC
3. Reverse Check (Doseeff):
Doseeff = V × CWeight
Where C is the concentration in mg/ml (calculated as Strength MassStrength Vol).
