Metal Roofing Sheet Calculator
Estimate corrugated metal sheets, screws, and overlaps for roofing projects. Supports standard global profiles (R-Panel, U-Panel, Corrugated) and provides visual layout logic to minimize waste.
About
Estimating metal roofing requires more than simple area multiplication. The "effective width" of a sheet determines actual coverage, as side overlaps consume material. Failure to account for side laps and end laps often leads to material shortages mid-project, incurring shipping delays and extra costs.
This tool calculates the total number of sheets required by analyzing the roof dimensions against specific panel profiles. It accounts for side overlap (coverage loss) and calculates the linear footage of screw fasteners needed based on standard structural density guidelines. It is designed for both DIY shed projects and professional residential re-roofing.
Formulas
The number of sheets is derived from the effective coverage width (Weff) and the total roof width (Wroof).
Rows = ceil(WroofWeff)
Total Sheets = Rows × ceil(LroofLsheet − Lapend)
Screws = Areasqft × 0.8
Screws are estimated at 80 per 100 sq.ft. allowing for stitching laps and purlin attachments.
