Duval GFR Calculator
Calculate GFR for pediatric and low-BMI patients using the Duval formula. Includes unit conversions for height and weight.
About
Standard GFR formulas like MDRD or CKD-EPI often fail in specific pediatric cohorts or patients with very low Body Mass Index (BMI), such as those with Cystic Fibrosis. In these unique clinical scenarios, the Duval formula provides a more accurate estimation of renal function by weighing height (length) more significantly against serum creatinine.
This calculator is specifically calibrated for these outlier populations. Unlike the Bedside Schwartz formula used for general pediatrics, the Duval algorithm offers an alternative validation point. It is critical to ensure the patient fits the demographic profile (typically 1-18 years or low-BMI adults) before relying on this output.
Formulas
The calculator implements the Duval algorithm logic commonly cited for specific pediatric validations:
Note: Some variations utilize 0.64 or age-dependent polynomials. This tool uses the standard 0.73 coefficient often associated with the Duval method for direct comparison against the Schwartz 0.413 constant.
