Concrete Walkway Calculator
Estimate concrete volume for straight or curved garden paths, including curve factors and bag counts.
Based on typical concrete density of 2400 kg/m³.
About
A well-designed concrete walkway connects different zones of a property, enhancing both accessibility and curb appeal. Unlike rectangular slabs, walkways often meander, introducing curves that complicate volume estimation. A simple length-times-width calculation for a curved path often underestimates the material needed because formwork for curves requires wider excavation and often results in varying thickness at the edges.
This calculator addresses these nuances. It allows homeowners and landscapers to estimate the total concrete volume required for a path, applying a specific "Curve Factor" to buffer the estimate against the geometric irregularities of winding paths. Additionally, it converts this volume into the number of pre-mixed concrete bags (60lb or 80lb) required, which is essential for DIY projects where a ready-mix truck is not feasible.
Formulas
The calculator derives the base volume from the path dimensions and then applies a multiplier (Curve Factor) to account for waste and formwork irregularities in non-linear sections.
