About
Venous Thromboembolism (VTE), comprising Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE), is a leading cause of preventable hospital death. The Caprini Risk Assessment Model is the gold standard for stratifying patients based on clinical history and surgical factors.
This tool digitizes the validated scoring system, summing risk factors to categorize patients into Low, Moderate, High, or Highest risk groups. It automatically matches the cumulative score with the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) prophylaxis guidelines, aiding clinicians in prescribing appropriate mechanical or pharmacological interventions.
Formulas
The total score is a linear summation of weighted boolean factors:
Where wi represents the weight (1, 2, 3, or 5 points) assigned to specific clinical conditions (e.g., Age 41-60 = 1pt, History of DVT = 3pts).
