About

Naming a business venture is a binding constraint. The name must compress brand identity, domain availability, and trademark clearance into a single phonetic token. A weak name costs discoverability; a conflicting one costs legal fees. This generator applies combinatorial linguistics - portmanteau blending at vowel boundaries, alliterative phoneme matching, and industry-weighted root selection - to produce 10 - 50 candidate names per batch. It does not replace trademark search. It approximates the output of a naming agency's brainstorm phase, constrained to pronounceable strings under 14 characters where possible.

Input your core keywords (k), select an industry vertical, and choose a stylistic register (Professional, Playful, Modern, Classic). The algorithm cross-references a curated dictionary of 800+ morphemes - prefixes, suffixes, and modifiers - filtered by your industry. Output is deduplicated and sorted by estimated brandability (shorter strings with alternating consonant-vowel patterns rank higher). Note: the tool assumes English phonotactics. Results for tonal or agglutinative languages require manual review.

Formulas

The generator produces names through three independent algorithms, then merges and deduplicates the output pool.

Ncompound = P + R + S

Where P is a prefix morpheme drawn from the industry pool, R is a root derived from user keywords, and S is a suffix selected by style register.

Nportmanteau = W1[0..j] + W2[k..end]

Where j is the index of the last vowel-consonant boundary in word W1, and k is the index of the first consonant-vowel boundary in word W2. This produces smooth phonetic blends.

B = 1len(N) × Calt

Brandability score B is inversely proportional to name length and directly proportional to Calt, the consonant-vowel alternation ratio (ranges from 0 to 1). Names with higher B appear first in results.

Frequently Asked Questions

The algorithm scans each input word for vowel-consonant (VC) and consonant-vowel (CV) boundaries. Word one is sliced after its last VC boundary; word two is sliced before its first CV boundary. The two fragments are concatenated. This maximizes pronounceability by ensuring the join point has natural phonetic flow. If no suitable boundary exists (e.g., a word is all consonants), the algorithm falls back to a midpoint split.
This tool generates candidate strings using combinatorial linguistics. It does not perform trademark searches, domain availability checks, or legal clearance. Before registering any generated name, you must search your jurisdiction's trademark database (e.g., USPTO TESS, EUIPO eSearch) and verify domain availability through a registrar. The generator optimizes for phonetic quality, not legal uniqueness.
The portmanteau engine occasionally produces consonant clusters at the join point that violate English phonotactic rules (e.g., three consecutive consonants). These are filtered by the brandability score - names with low consonant-vowel alternation ratio (Calt < 0.3) rank lower. You can also switch to the Classic style, which avoids truncation and uses full English words, eliminating this issue entirely.
Each industry maps to a curated pool of 50 - 80 morphemes (prefixes, roots, suffixes) that carry domain-specific connotations. For example, Technology pulls from roots like Cloud, Sync, and Logic with suffixes like -ify and -io. Finance draws from Capital, Apex, and Ledger with suffixes like -ium and -ex. The algorithm randomly samples from these pools, so regenerating produces different combinations from the same constrained vocabulary.
You can enter up to 5 keywords, each limited to 20 characters. Only alphanumeric characters and spaces are accepted. The algorithm uses each keyword as a potential root morpheme. Longer keywords are truncated at syllable boundaries for portmanteau generation. Single-syllable keywords produce the cleanest blends.
It changes the algorithm inputs. Professional style uses Latin and Greek roots (Veritas, Apex, Nexus) and formal suffixes (-ium, -is). Playful uses short, punchy morphemes and onomatopoeia (Buzz, Pop, Snap) with casual suffixes (-ly, -ify). Modern drops vowels from keywords and favors truncated forms. Classic uses full unmodified English words in compound structures. Each style activates a different morpheme dictionary.
