About

This application transforms the classic sliding-block puzzle paradigm into a felid-evolutionary simulation. The core objective is to combine tiles of identical value to create a tile of double the value, following the geometric progression 2n. In this iteration, numerical abstractions are replaced (or augmented) by a taxonomic hierarchy of felines, culminating in the apex predator.

Unlike stochastic games of chance, 2048 is a deterministic system with a random variable injection (the spawning of new tiles). The primary risk to the player is grid lock - a state where the 4×4 matrix ($M$) is fully populated with no adjacent equal values ($\{ \forall i,j : M_{i,j} \neq M_{i\pm1, j\pm1} \}$). Strategic foresight is required to maintain monotonicity in rows or columns to ensure mergeability.

Formulas

The game operates on a 4×4 grid matrix G. A move in a direction vector d applies a transformation T such that:

G = merge(shift(G, d))

Score accumulation S follows the summation of merged values:

Stotal = Nk=1 vmerged, k

Where v is the face value of the resulting tile. The spawn probability P for a new tile t is:

{
t = 2 with P = 0.9t = 4 with P = 0.1

Frequently Asked Questions

No. While 2048 (The Lion) is the victory condition, you can continue playing to reach higher numbers like 4096 and 8192, limited only by the grid space.
Yes. The algorithm selects a coordinate pair (x,y) from the set of currently empty cells using a uniform distribution, then assigns a value of 2 or 4 based on weighted probability.
A move is invalid if it would result in no change to the grid state. This occurs when all tiles are blocked by the grid edge or a different value tile.
The score increases only when tiles merge. If you merge two "4" tiles to create an "8", your score increases by +8.
